Behind Marvel & Make

Hi there, I’m Brittney Stalvey.

I’m so glad you’re here. My desire is to inspire you to fall in love with cooking from scratch. Our bodies are these beautifully created, intricate machines that were designed to be fueled by food. Busy lives encourage us to reach for boxed meals, fast food, take out, or even mail-order entrées with pre-measured ingredients.

We have lost sight of what it means to actually cook with real ingredients. As a result, we’re spending way too much money on highly-processed food that isn’t nourishing and our health suffers because of it. My recipes and cooking techniques are the things I wish I’d known years ago.

Follow along with me on this journey to live more nutrient dense, sustainable lifestyles.

Marvel at the Little Things

When I finally decided to embark on creating a blog, the first question I asked myself was “what should I call it?

My everyday theme for the past few years fell to a single word: marvel. I simply cannot get through a day without stumbling upon beauty that strikes me. I have learned to pause in the moment and soak it in. These precious gifts always manifest themselves in things like found flowers – especially if they’re presented to me freshly picked by my sons. Or perhaps, in the purely wholesome taste of a perfectly baked fresh milled biscuit. Either way, life is too short not to stop, notice the little things, and recognize our humanity.

I call it “marveling.”

“Make” has a little less pizzazz – it’s simply what I find myself doing almost daily.

Whether we consider ourselves “creative” or not, we all were built by a creator to create in some form or fashion. For me, that typically looks like a home-cooked meal. And though it may not look beautiful, I can promise it will at the very least be nutrient dense and nourishing, and at the very best…taste delicious.

Now, for the fun stuff:

  • I live on 15 acres in southeast Georgia with my husband, our three children, some chickens, ducks, and too many cats (you know how that goes).
  • I have two siblings:
    • an older sister who lives in Ohio with her husband and their three children in a farmhouse on 160 acres (she’s a much better gardener than I am),
    • and a younger (I almost wrote “little” even though he’s in early 30’s and is a foot taller than me) brother who lives in California as an engineer for a major car manufacturer.
  • My parents just recently settled in the Tri-Cities of Tennessee but love traveling the US in their RV.
  • I have over a decade of marketing experience in the firearms industry and have my own consulting firm where I help clients find their brand voice. (www.jsaconsultingllc.com)
  • I dual-enrolled my last two years of high school which allowed me to obtain my AA early and then travel as a missionary with YWAM before finishing up my Bachelor’s in English.
  • I would rather be on the water any day of the week.
  • I am a co-chapter leader for the Weston A Price Foundation Brunswick, GA chapter – that basically means I help people in my area find locally sourced foods like raw milk, grass-fed beef, etc.
  • I self-published a short guide and logbook on cold plunges that can be purchased on Amazon. Check out more information at www.thecoldplungemovement.com.
  • If you really want me to do something, tell me not to do it.

I want to hear from you!
